Ratio decidendi: One of the best brunch spots on the North Shore.

Scope of discovery: Spicy Porky Beans ($15)

Case note: The Croque Madame – that is all. I’d say it tastes as good as it looks, but my poor photography skills haven’t done it any justice. Gruyere cheese, Black Forest ham, Bechamel and Dijon mustard with the runny yolk of a perfectly poached egg to tie it all together? Cmonnn how can it NOT taste good?


Other sampled items include the spicy porky beans – a generous bowl of house made baked beans, and different cuts of pork, a poached egg and the wafer-thin-nest bacon strips I have ever seen! It was a touch salty for my liking though, which becomes more apparent as you get towards the bottom of the bowl and start running out of bread.


Obiter Dicta: Great vibe here and a no-longer-so-hidden gem on the north shore. Salvage uses Mecca coffee/single origin and sources bread from St Malos bakery in Crows Nest
