Outcome: Hung Jury
Salient features: Soy latte
Ratio decidendi: Has the look and vibe of an inner-suburb café and certainly does well to separate itself from its local competition. Jury’s still out on whether it’s worth making the trek just for the food alone though.
Scope of discovery: The parmesan French toast excited on paper but didn’t quite deliver. While I’m all for “the whole being greater than the sum of its parts”, there’s limits to how much a dish can be elevated by combination of flavours alone, if there’s nothing spectacular about each element in isolation. Ditto with the gnocchi – there wasn’t anything to hate, but there wasn’t much to love either.
